Building & Equipping Health Infrastructure in Lower-Resource Settings Date: Sept 29th, 2021

Time: 08:00 - 11:00 Nigeria Time | 07:00 - 10:00 GMT | 10:00 - 13:00 East Africa Time Speakers from: African Development Bank, Africa Health Business, Medical Credit Fund Session Description:

Hospitals and other healthcare facilities are crucial for delivering better quality of care to people most in need of help and also provide work for a countless number of people. A strong healthcare system relies on exceptional health infrastructure, including large hospitals, small clinics, primary health clinics, doctors’ offices and nursing homes, to work together to provide the right care at the right place at the right time. COVID-19 has further emphasized the need for hospitals to be flexible, resilient and rapidly deployable, based on the type of care that is needed at that point in time. The session will focus on the opportunities and challenges of financing healthcare infrastructure in Africa, leveraging technology to facilitate access to investments to small and scale healthcare facilities.

Co-Creating Accessible Healthcare for All Date: September 30th, 2021

Time: 15:00 - 18:00 Nigeria Time| 14:00 - 17:00 GMT | 17:00 - 20:00 East Africa Time Speakers from: Makueni County (Kenya), Philips, Amref Health Africa and PharmAccess Session Description:

Currently, at least half of the people in the world do not receive the health services they need. About 100 million people are pushed into extreme poverty each year because of out-of-pocket spending on health. There is a need to empower individuals and communities to access to better health services and take care of their own health and the health of their families. Skilled health workers need to be enabled to provide quality, people-centered care. Policy-makers need to create an enabling environment and make financial commitments to ensure continuity in financing and accessing better health care in both rural and urban areas. This session will discuss initiatives for improving access to health care among vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, poor people and the youth in low-income settings.
